Lawrie creates bold abstractions from her studio home on Crag Lake, near Carcross, Yukon. In 2011, after years writing for story, stage, and interdisciplinary performances, Lawrie devoted herself to painting. In early 2014 Lawrie graduated with a Master's of Fine Art in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College on their Port Townsend, WA campus.
Lawrie thinks big and works intuitively, layering then scraping back or sanding, exposing traces and shadows of deleted colour and light. She ascribes meaning to a panarchy loop pattern, which integrates motion, rhythm, vibration and pause into her painting and art-life process. She welcomes diverse connections and conversations through email, studio visits or phone calls.
She is a founding member of the Southern Lakes Artist Collective (SLAC), and a member of the Yukon Art Society and the Hui No‘eau, on Maui, Hawai‘i. In Yukon, her work can be seen at Arts Underground in Whitehorse or by arranging a studio visit. On Maui her work can be seen at Swan Interiors in Wailuku, and on the Paia Contemporary Gallery’s website.
