I have been making Linoleum cut prints since I studied printmaking at Emily Carr College of Art and Design in the 1980s. I enjoy the focus and physical nature of carving the blocks as well as the scent of the warm lino. Although I begin with an image in mind and a rough sketch on the block, I like to work spontaneously while carving. For this reason, the first inking of the block is very exciting. I also enjoy lifting the printed paper from the block and seeing the final result.
Recently, I have been exploring adding colour to my prints and mixing them with other mediums. I have begun to combine them with paint or pencil, layer them onto board, use them to make trivets and collage them into lanterns. I am also experimenting with creating hand printed fabrics.
Each of my pieces is printed by hand in my home studio ‘Inky Fingers Studio and Gallery’ in Haines Junction.
