I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1953. The Yukon has been my home since 1979 which was the year I began showing my work in galleries. I am a self-taught artist, though I confess to taking one semester of drawing in art school where I went to learn book design.
Inspiration comes from my environment, particularly my neighbourhood and the microcosms of nature. But I have a strong fantasy and storybook streak which I tend to indulge.
Normally, I work in an illustrative storybook style using watercolour and, occasionally, graphite and coloured pencil. Lately, inspired by Japanese inro boxes, I have begun working in polymer clay. I also illustrate digitally in Photoshop, the most recent project being a First Nation's storybook.
As a member of the Studio Gallery Association, I have been part of several group shows, the most notable of which were the Chess Show and the Tarot Show at the Yukon Arts Centre Gallery. I have shown in several galleries, shops and restaurants in Whitehorse as well as The Magic Beanbuyer Bookshop (1985) and North Park Gallery (1991) in Victoria and Great West Gallery (1989) in Chemainus on Vancouver Island. I currently show at Arts Underground in Whitehorse and through my website.
