In this 3-day workshop Jai, a Vancouver-based ceramic artist, will lead participants through sculpting animals from clay using the technique of building as solid forms, then hollowing them out. On the first day of the workshop, the animals are built as solid forms, then on the second day, they are cut, hollowed, and reassembled, followed by adding textures and details. Third day will be cleaning up details, painting on underglaze and carving into that surface. Focus will be given to the anatomy of the animal and details in the facial features such as eyes, teeth or other little creature-features!
By the end of the sessions everyone will have their own fully built animal sculpture, about 6-8” tall, hollowed out, painted with underglaze and ready to be bisque fired. Jai will go over your options for surface treatments such as glaze, stains or more underglaze at the end of this workshop.
