In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of making a mosaic using chards of broken tile and other inert materials. Culture Days: Try the Potter’s Wheel
This free event is funded by the Yukon Government Tourism and Culture Branch in celebration of Culture Days 2025.
Come and learn the first steps of throwing clay on a potter’s wheel. Try your hand at centering the clay, opening the clay, compressing the bottom, and pulling up walls – the foundational steps of all things wheel thrown. Be prepared to get a little messy and have a lot of fun! This will be a drop in event from 12-4pm, no registration required, recommended for ages 12+.

Felted Landscapes with Toos Omtzigt
In this introductory workshop in creating a felted landscape, participants will learn how to use both needle and wet felting techniques to make a 2-dimensional wall hanging. There will be a many wool types in various colours to experiment with as Toos guides a prefelt and landscape design composition. Depending on work pace, participants will take home one or two 12” x 12” felted landscape pictures, and all the skills to continue felting at home.

This class is geared towards teens just starting out with acrylic paint or teens looking for fresh inspiration in regards to material and process. Katherine will lead students on an exploration of multiple acrylic painting techniques with emphasis on colour, composition and experimentation. The class will examine approaches from different artists both local and international, and work on various projects over the 4 days.

Drawing Animals in the Wild with Sheelah Tolton
Join us at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve to learn how to draw animals in the wild. We will be walking the entirety of the 5km loop, and dependent on the visibility of our models, will stop to draw and learn how to accurately represent something that almost never sits still! Topics will include understanding anatomy, how to use proportion to create identifiable body shapes, simplification of forms, foreshortening, and textural mark making for textures such as horns and fur.

Portrait Painting with Suzanne Paleczny
This portrait painting workshop will cover all the essential information necessary for those interested in painting portraits from life. Topics covered will include the structure and features of the head/face, colour mixing, light and shadow, creating the illusion of three dimensions, and strategies for working from life. Over the course of the 4 sessions, participants will paint three portraits of live models, and will receive individual instruction as they paint. Any level of painting experience is welcomed!
