Drawing Animals in the Wild with Sheelah Tolton

Join us at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve to learn how to draw animals in the wild. We will be walking the entirety of the 5km loop, and dependent on the visibility of our models, will stop to draw and learn how to accurately represent something that almost never sits still! Topics will include understanding anatomy, how to use proportion to create identifiable body shapes, simplification of forms, foreshortening, and textural mark making for textures such as horns and fur.

Sketching Heritage at the Old Log Church

Arts Underground, Yukon Historical Museums Association and the Old Log Church Museum are teaming up in this workshop where an interpretive talk will be followed by an introductory class on sketching historical buildings. The instruction will cover three main topics: how to break down complicated looking facades into more simple shapes, how perspective affects what we see, and how to layer the different parts of the image to create depth. Students will then have a chance to practice their new knowledge with help of the instructor. With these tools, you will find new confidence in drawing the historical buildings of the Yukon.

Please bring a pencil, pencil sharpener, water soluble pen, sketchbook, and your own seating. Art supplies can be purchased from Underground Art Supplies either in person or in our online store.
