Mountains in the Morning: Outdoor Landscapes in the Yukon

FOCUS GALLERY
May 3 - June 1, 2024
Opening Reception: May 3, 5-7pm

The perfect place to paint a landscape is outside, with trees and mountains in view. My plein air paintings show the strong shapes, values, and colours of the Yukon landscape. Cezanne and the Group of Seven are two of my strongest influences.

I love arriving at a beautiful scene and realizing that this is the view that I will paint today. I’m fortunate to have so many locations to choose from in the Yukon. I set up my easel and quickly paint the main shapes of the view before me. Applying brushstrokes, I respond directly to the landscape and light. This process gives my paintings life.

The Yukon landscape continues to be an inspiration for me. I search out new compositions in all seasons and respond to the changing light in the morning sky.
