Miriam Behman | A Passing Glimpse
Miriam Behman
A Passing Glimpse
EDGE GALLERY
March 6 - 28, 2026
Opening Reception: March 6, 5-7pm
This small collection of recent weavings are inspired by my attendance of artist residencies in Eagle Plains, Yukon (2024) and Svalbard, Norway (2025). The works bring together images of northern landscapes, staring at each other across the Arctic Ocean. I use handweaving as an intervention in my photographs as a means of slowing down image-making. The hazy quality of the images stem from a desire to capture the murky quality of memory. In this series, I find parallels between memory and melting landscapes; between recollection and disappearance.
MIRIAM BEHMAN
Miriam Behman is an interdisciplinary artist who works primarily with photography and weaving, often exploring concepts of memory, grief and longing. Lately, she has been experimenting with hand weaving as an intervention in photographic images. The handmade disturbances she inserts into her photographs point to her observations of change in the landscapes she inhabits and visits.
Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Miriam is now based on Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in Territory. She splits her time between Dawson City and Tombstone Territorial Park, where she works as a Park Interpreter and supports arts programming. In the off-season, she can be found in the studio or taking part in artist residencies. Most recently, she attended the Arctic Circle Residency in Svalbard, Norway.
