Hecate Press is a collective of northern comic artists from Canada’s territories. Our founding goal is to create and publish comics from entirely northern perspective without catering to a southern audience. There’s an impulse when making art about the Canadian north to focus on explaining it to southerners, or to slide into stereotype and contrivance. Since 2019 we’ve released multiple anthologies and individual comics by northern artists interested in telling their own unique stories. The goal of Hecate Press is to showcase its collective members’ work outside of the territory and internationally.
KIM EDGAR
Kim is an interdisciplinary artist living on Tr’ondek Hwech’in land in Dawson City, YT. Their comic work focuses on experiences of environmental and bodily decay.
CLAIRE GALLAGHER
Claire Gallagher is a Whitehorse, Yukon based comic artist. They work in pencil and micron pen and write stories about monsters.
PRINCESS J
Princess J is a Dawsonite living in Whitehorse. Her work involves folktale literary traditions, mysticism and complex ecology. Most of her work is set in the future.
ASIA HYDE
Born in Whitehorse Yukon, Asia Hyde is a Designer-Illustrator. Her personal work focuses on flora, fauna and folklore; she enjoys telling stories that balance elements of humour and horror.
