Alaena Warner examines the life cycles of the boreal forest as a metaphor for life transitions and subsequent transformation. Her work explores themes related to mental health, physical breakdown and regeneration, as well as motherhood and a yearning for connection. Her work brings together fragments of mythology, symbolism, memory and family history that have influenced her worldview.
ALAENA WARNER
Alaena Warner was born in Whitehorse, Yukon and spent her formative years in Yukon communities and Northern Saskatchewan. Since her childhood, in remote, slower paced rural settings, Alaena’s imagination has gravitated to the natural world as a source of inspiration. Alaena is a multidisciplinary artist and is currently branching out into the medium of ceramic sculpture. Alaena holds a BFA in painting and drawing from Concordia University.
Alaena would like to thank her current educators and mentors, Sandra Storey, Nicole Bauberger and Patrick Royle for their generous sharing of knowledge, warmth and presence. She would also like to thank the Yukon Arts Fund and the Advanced Artist Award for making these current explorations possible.
